There's plenty to do in and around Columbia, Tennessee. The city owns and manages seven public parks and recreation areas, including Woodland Park and the Macedonia recreational center. Also located in Columbia is the James Knox Polk ancestral home, now a National Historic site and open to the public. The city also maintains a disc golf course and an aquatic center. It's easy to get around Columbia, Tennessee. Interstate 65 runs just east of the city and connects Columbia with Nashville to the north and Decatur, Alabama to the south. The Mule County Trolley provides regular public transportation around the Greater Columbia area. In addition, the South Central Tennessee Development District provides on-call transportation between points in Columbia and other locations around the region, including Nashville. For trips outside of the region, Nashville International Airport is less than 90 minutes away by car and offers more than 400 daily non-stop flights to more than 90 destinations around North America and beyond.
Columbia is home to the annual Mule Day festival, which celebrates the city's heritage in breeding the animals that pulled the pioneer wagons to the west during the mid-19th century. In addition to the Polk Home, Columbia has a number of antebellum homes, some of which are open to the public.
Homeowners in Columbia don't need to worry about access to quality health care. The city is home to the 255-bed Maury County Medical Center. In addition, the top-ranked Vanderbilt University Medical Center is located just 90 minutes away.
Columbia might look familiar. The city and the surrounding area have been featured in a number of movies in recent years, including "The Green Mile," "At Close Range" and "Hannah Montana: the Movie."

Columbia Area Schools
School-age residents of Columbia, Tennessee attend Maury County Public Schools. The district has a current enrollment of around 16,600 students and owns and manages 21 schools - 13 elementary schools, seven middle schools and six high schools. In addition to the public schools, the Columbia area is home to a number of private schools. These include Columbia Academy, Agathos School of Columbia and King's Daughters' School. For higher education, Columbia is home to Columbia State Community College, an accredited two-year college and trade school with more than 1,500 students. Columbia is also just a short drive from the many colleges and universities located in nearby Nashville, such as Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State University and Belmont University.
