There's plenty to do in and around Columbia, Tennessee. The city owns and manages seven public parks and recreation areas, including Woodland Park and the Macedonia recreational center. In addition, the South Central Tennessee Development District provides on-call transportation between points in Columbia and other locations around the region, including Nashville. For trips outside of the region, Nashville International Airport is less than 90 minutes away by car and offers more than 400 daily non-stop flights to more than 90 destinations around North America and beyond.
Columbia is home to the annual Mule Day festival, which celebrates the city's heritage in breeding the animals that pulled the pioneer wagons to the west during the mid-19th century. In addition to the Polk Home, Columbia has a number of antebellum homes, some of which are open to the public.

For higher education, Columbia is home to Columbia State Community College, an accredited two-year college and trade school with more than 1,500 students. Columbia is also just a short drive from the many colleges and universities located in nearby Nashville, such as Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State University and Belmont University.
