Beretta, the Italian firearms manufacturer, relocated its production plant to the city in 2015 from Accokeek, Maryland. Other top employers in Gallatin include Volunteer State Community College, Tennessee Valley Authority, GAP, Inc. (the city's largest employer), and RR Donnelley.

Arts and Cultural Events

The city has several annual events for those who appreciate the fine arts. Each August the city hosts the Sumner County Fair. In December, residents look forward to the annual Christmas parade. Each Fall, there is a Fall Festival that is held in the square. Gallatin is also known for its unique annual Candlelight Cemetery tour. Residents also enjoy the "3rd Thursday on Main" every month from May to October. This is a free concert series held the third Thursday of those months in Sumner County.

Over the last five years, the city has received over $70 million in grants for critical projects like new roads, pedestrian and bike paths, infrastructure projects, and revitalization and preservation projects. Gallatin Area Schools

Residents in Gallatin can send their children to Sumner County Schools. The school system has been in business since 1873 and has 46 schools, with some that are very unique: one STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) elementary school, one academic magnet school, one virtual high school, one Middle College, 24 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 7 regular high schools, and one alternative/zero tolerance school. To determine which school students will attend, parents can view a boundary map that details attendance zones. Before- and after-school programs are available at many elementary school sites to help working parents.

For the past three years, students at Sumner County High School made gains on ACT scores, resulting in higher composite scores each year compared to the previous group. The Sumner County Schools 2015-16 ACT Results have been published, and the school system is proud that their average ACT composite score continues to be higher than the state's average ACT composite score.

Graduates of Sumner County don't have to go far for higher education. Volunteer State Community College's (known to most as "Vol State") main campus is located right in Gallatin. The school operates as a public community college offering affordable higher education to Tennessee college students.
