Today Nashville is proud to be the home of country music. A rich heritage of Anglo-American folk music came with the settlers and by 1920 it was clear that the offspring country and blues recordings were gaining in popularity. By 1950, every major record company had offices and studios in Nashville and Country Music was big business! But perhaps the greatest force in focusing worldwide attention to Nashville was sparked by the famed WSM’s Grand Ole Opry with over 50 years of continuous live broadcasting. Millions still tune in every Saturday night. That role has now expanded into Contemporary Christian, rock, rhythm & blues and even commercial jingle advertisements that run coast to coast.
